Space optical systems require unique advanced
equipment to cut, grind, polish, and coat the optics. SOMTC has an extensive
collection of instruments in labs and shops to produce the highly specialized
items. The world class facilities produce precision optics from a variety
of materials.
The fabrication team is researching new techniques for producing ultra lightweight optics. There is a specific working group to produce the precision optomechanical mounting fixtures for housing optics.
